Increase your understanding

Sensory processing is the ability to perceive, process and respond to information we receive through our senses. It’s something we all do and experience very differently

Sensory processing is the ability to perceive, process and respond to information we receive through our senses. It’s something we all do and experience very differently. A child’s ability to concentrate, play, learn, socialise, and develop skills relies upon effective sensory integration. Our sensory processing skills also have a direct impact on our emotions, attention, and learning. That’s why it is so important to understand how your child processes sensory information, and what you can do to support their sensory needs.

This comprehensive session offers an opportunity for you to:

  • understand what sensory processing is

  • learn about the different types of sensory profiles people can present with

  • learn about the 8 sensory systems, including the lesser known proprioception, vestibular and interoception senses

  • gain a greater understanding of why your child may behave in a certain way, or respond differently in different environment

  • be able to confidently read the behavioural and sensory clues your child is giving you

  • learn some general strategies to support your child’s sensory regulation using a ‘sensory diet’

A follow up webinar on 4th August will delve deeper into sensory strategies to support your child.

Who can attend?

We invite parents, caregivers, grandparents and other interested family members to attend. Information in the session would also be beneficial for Support Workers or other support staff working with your child and family. A future session will be targeted towards teachers and education support staff.
