Sensory processing is the ability to perceive, process and respond to information we receive through our senses. It’s something we all do and experience very differently. A child’s ability to concentrate, play, learn, socialise, and develop skills relies upon effective sensory integration. Our sensory processing skills also have a direct impact on our emotions, attention, and learning. That’s why it is so important to understand how each of your students processes sensory information, and what you can do to support their sensory needs in the classroom.
This comprehensive session offers an opportunity for you to:
understand what sensory processing is
learn about the different types of sensory profiles students can present with
learn about the 8 sensory systems, including the lesser known proprioception, vestibular and interoception senses
gain a greater understanding of why students may behave in a certain way, or respond differently in different environment
be able to confidently read the behavioural and sensory clues your students are giving you
